About orienteering… A sport that can be discovered only by who has the curiosity to go in the middle of the forest with a map and a compass in his hand.

Skore Cup 05.12.2015 – Baia Mare

For the first time since I practice orienteering, a contest took place exactly on my birthday , having  a beautiful weather , with a temperature of 5 degrees , unusual in December, when snow should have already covering the ground. And what more I could want for my birthday , but run in the competition , not just any type, but a Skore stage .

In choosing the route between controls I have taken into account my preparation and physical condition, so that I would not have to climb too much to final part due to fatigue , so in conclusion I aimed to take the hill in the chest as early in then running as possible, so all to be easy and pleasant .

I hesitated at control 14 , where I lost a minute, but did not really have what to do with it anyway. I adjusted the route throughout all the route depending on the time remaining for  50 minutes (this was time given for my category ) and the result turned out to be just fine as I was the winner occupying first place.

Memorial prof. Costica Petrisor 27.09.2015 - Baia Mare

Memorial prof. Costica Petrisor 27.09.2015 – Baia Mare

Sunday, September 27 , in the Regina Maria Park, in a small circle, it was organized Memorial prof . Costica Petrisor .

I runned the first 7 controls with good speed, felt tired climbing towards 8, control 10 was placed a few meters to the right , and the latest controls have exhausted all my energy .

At the end of the award ceremony , Denisa served us with one piece of cake, a cake which I appreciated much due to great special design.

Cupa Skore 29.11.2014 – Baia Mare

Skore Cup 29.11.2014 – Baia Mare

Saturday took place 40 th edition of Skore Cup competition, a traditional competition with certain special rules that are very interesting. Armed with 40 minutes, and a polygon of controls, had to try to collect as many controls as possible without exceeding the time, because for any time exceeding exists a penalty, and how much greater is overcoming the more harsh penalty was. Items 10 to 19 worth 1 point each, the 20 to 29, by 2 points, those from 30-39 by 3 points and controls 60 and 61 were not installed. Below you can see the version that I chose and I made 19 points. I was the only one that I chose to go in the direction of the station 26 and the base of the decision was that I felt ready to take the hill in the chest when I was not tired, and in return, depending on the time left, to collect items which are more manageable. I lost 3 minutes at station 21, where I had doubts about the position of (and as seen in gps line was positioned a little further south on level) and at the last control 100 I do not know what I had in mind and took into making the wrong direction making about 100 m further, and almost to make me to exceed the time limit. :)

Eger Nagydíj 09-10.11.2014 - Eger (Ungaria)

Eger Nagydíj 08-09.11.2014 – Eger (Hungary)

The first stage of the competition had started right next to the tree where is told that Rakoczi had tied his horse. I started the route with disbelief, not understanding why there was no need for a station CHECK’ and one START’. Now I learn (and I will remember it) that the most of big sprint competitions do not use it. After completing the course, I found that I could make better choices for Item 4 and the control 5, both through the top. At station 7 I had a little hesitation and I got a little higher, but besides those mentioned before, my overall time increased because of my running speed (sigh).

A very good idea of the organizers was to make available to competitors a small maze that you could occupy your time with until the next start. I accepted Samir’s challange to have one route with a map without codes. Unfortunately I lost the provocation, with a hesitation to station 6. Map with this maze I have returned it later.

After lunch, there was a second stage. I hoped to be better than in the morning stage, but I had notable mistakes. I managed to watch from the start that was an alley, but when I ran it looked more like a trail, so I missed the very first control. I arrived at conrol 6 upper than I anticipated, and I hesitated to control 9.

In stage 3, the long distance, it was a little unpleasant that I left the track quite late. I had no idea what the symbol of the first control was, and I thought the first time it’s kind of peak (relative to the conventional description). It was actually a pole, which otherwise I would have represented it as a black X. The following controls have not raised any issue until the control 5. I saw a hunting place, which confused me and made me think I deviated quite a lot from the route. The sign was actualy very close to the path, and away I could not see it very well. At Item 6 I had a hesitation, just as I did in control 11,  where I got a little more to the right.

Starting with control 4 I got a lady who has adjusted variants based on me for the following sections, which I do not like at all. I never agreed this, and as a result, I decided to change my equipment in the future with a less visible one in the woods :)

Cursa Lunga 02.11.2014 - bucla 1

Long Route 02.11.2014 – Cluj

On election day, I traveled to Cluj for a special stage: one man relay. I started on the first loop and got no problems running towards control 33. I continued to second control, with one route by the end of the valleys. The following items have not been a major challenge, only at running (from the last section :)). I also started to notice the red mark. It was present in all sections including in the second loop, only with small interruptions. Because I already run 5 km and marking was really a spoiler (ex. hole with red mark above), I gave up running the last loop of the route. Below maps and a few snapshots from the event. :)
