Although I was not fully recovered after a cold (still coughing), I decided to attend the National Championship of Night Orienteering. After the experience I had two years ago at this type of competition, I was a little skeptical about the contest. In the end though, I decided: I have started competing with one conditionto keep the strength and not run faster than I could by considering my health.
National Championship Night
I made the route fail until control 6, with a small hesitation in control # 2, but control 7 was a real challenge. I tried to catch the trail on top, but as being a small path, of course I didn’t found it and lost a lot of time trying to find a way out with Monica out of the green area. Finally I gave up and I reconsidered the route, choosing to make a detour, but which took me right in the field. The rest of the route I did at a slow pace because of cough that seemed to not giving me a breakl. As the conclusion of the championship, I can say that I was very happy about the organization, map, route and it was a pleasant experience going through at night. As a big plus, the visibility of teh controls was excellent.
Golden Compass Cup – Stage I
On the first day of competition I experienced the high temperature, warmth that I had not experienced this year and which did not help at all in sections taken mainly in the field. I went perfectly, flawlessly, but my running speed was lower as respecting my commitment not to force my body.
Golden Compass Cup – Stage II
Stage II did not work as well as the first: I still did small mistakes in the first control, and than in the second, but the main mistake I did in control 4, whwre I took a really bad route …
The only thing I noticed in a negative way was the lack of water, which considering the start time (at around 12) and consider temperatures it would have been necessary and welcomed by all competitors. Otherwise, I can say that I liked it: the map was new, exciting and physically demanding, and Golden Compass confirmed, remaining one of my favorite races that I hope to attend as many editions as I can.
